Adoption and Foster Parenting
When my wife and i were first dating, the subject of kids came up. She was OK with 2 or maybe 3; i quite sincerely told her i hoped to parent (or did i say "father") 13. She thought i was kidding, but deep down i knew i wasn't.
When i think of adoption and foster parenting, diverse threads weave themselves together in my mind:
- Special Needs Adoption
- Youth in Foster Care
- Overseas Adoption
I find a strong affinity between being a parent and coming into mindfulness. I find that opening oneself up to the wisdom of children gives one access to deeper truths. By the time i was 40, and my wife was bearing our third child, i knew we wouldn't spawn 10 more. I had watched her birth all three of our children, and saw the physical toll it took on her, and on nearly all mothers.
Our particular story with adoption began in earnest the summer my son fell out of the tree and nearly died.
